Split headphones

Split headphones:

If the SPLIT function is active, you can hear in the headphones both deck A and deck B, each in the corresponding ear. You will hear deck A in the left ear and deck B in the right ear. However, if you pre-listen a song (preview), you will hear it in both ears, just like when the SPLIT mode is not active.

If you long-press the Split button (when SPLIT function is not active) on a hardware controller (like the Behringer BCD2000/3000) the PGM (program) mode is activated and you will hear in the headphones exactly what's playing in the speakers. The preview song will not be heard anymore and the Phones Split button on the controller will light up intermittently.

PFL-mix fader/knob

PFL-MIX -fader/knob addressing the signal only to monitor (headphones). Set to left to hear monitor only deck A, set to middle to hear both decks and finally, set to right to hear only deck B. If the SPLIT headphones mode is active, this knob has no effect on the sound.

Volume Slider

The signal volume for each deck can be modified using the Volume slider. By default the slider is positioned at the highest volume. Left fader is designed for deck A, right fader for deck B. Use right mouse click or drag to momentarily change the signal volume. On right mouse release the slider jumps back to it's old value.

Gain Knob

To modify the sound amplification from -12 dB to +12 dB use the Gain Knob available for each deck and also to microphone, master and monitor channels. The higher the gain the louder the sound, but distortions (digital clipping) may appear at high levels. Use right mouse click on the knob to reset the amplification back to the default 0 dB.

Crossfader curve

This controls the way the crossfader is modifying the volume of the 2 decks. If this is set to hard, the volume will jump abruptly from mute to full volume (or from full volume to mute). If the curve is soft, the volume will change smoothly.

VU-meters

The Decks VU-meters are displaying each deck signal and the microphone. Left VU-meter shows the signal for deck A, right VU-meter for deck B. The deck's and microphone's VU-meters are mono (one per deck). There is also a Master stereo VU-meter – shows the master output signal.

Every VU-meters displays signals from -48 dB (blue/green color) to 0 dB (first red led) and up to +10 dB. To avoid audio distorsions it’s recommended to keep the signal of each deck (and of the master output too) close to 0 dB and with peaks reaching the red portion of the VU-meters. Use the Gain knobs to adjust the deck's signal strength.

Microphone functions

There are two microphone related functions: the TalkOver and the OnAir buttons. The OnAir function activates the microphone input, while the TalkOver function lowers the master signal by 12 dB to allow the microphone to be “heard”. You could also place effects on the microphone channel like VST reverbs or compressors to make the microphone signal sound better.

Analog Input(s) Mixing

A very special feature of this DJ solution is that you can mix an MP3 (or any other digital file format) with an analog signal from a turntable or a CD-player. You can even mix two analog inputs if you want. You will need an ASIO compatible audio soundcard on Windows or any soundcard in Mac for this to work. This way, you can connect a turntable and a CD-player or two turntables to the software. All functions will work ok with the analog signal including the effects, equalizers, mixer, etc.

Each of the two analog inputs corresponds to a deck. Eg. if you press the Analog Input B button, the analog signal from that physical input will be routed through all possible functions of deck B: EQs, Cutoff Filter, Effects, Gain, Volume, Cross-Fader and VU-Meters. When activated, the red text “Analog In” appears on some skins at the corresponding deck and the deck's loaded song stops.

As the Microphone Input and the Phono Input A are mapped on the same physical input on some controllers (Behringer ones in particular), the Talk-Over and On- Air functions don't work when Analog In A is activated. If you want, the input type for Analog Input A may be automatically choosen by the software to either PHONO or MIC depending on the situation. If you will press the ON-AIR function, the input type will be set to Microphone. If you press the Analog Input A button on the hardware controller, the input type will be Phono.
